South SF: Safe Arrivals

February 12, 2027 @ 8:30 am - 9:45 am
Event Series (See All)

Safe Arrivals is a weekly meeting with a primary focus on recovery from emotional, social, sexual, and work-related anorexia — patterns of withdrawal, avoidance, and difficulty giving or receiving nourishment in life.

Many people who struggle in these ways do not identify with common descriptions of sex or love addiction. Some have little relationship history at all, yet experience:

  • Chronic isolation or loneliness
  • Fear of closeness, exposure, or vulnerability
  • Emotional numbing or detachment
  • Reliance on fantasy instead of real connection
  • Disappearing or withdrawing when stress increases
  • Avoidance of people, places, and situations that might be triggering
  • Difficulty sustaining meaningful work, self-care, or daily structure

In SLAA, these patterns are understood as part of the same illness — often described as anorexia, a compulsive restriction of emotional, relational, sexual, or life nourishment.

This can include work anorexia, such as:

  • Avoidance of necessary work tasks or career development
  • Acting-in behaviors that block productivity or forward movement
  • Cycles of procrastination, paralysis, or shutdown
  • Difficulty tolerating evaluation, responsibility, or visibility
  • Neglect of health, finances, or daily self-maintenance

Avoidance may once have served as protection from overwhelm, trauma, or shame, but over time it can become a life strategy that deepens isolation and reduces freedom.

Safe Arrivals aims to provide a calm, structured, trauma-informed environment where recovery can begin at a manageable pace. The emphasis is on stability, consistency, and rebuilding capacity for connection, responsibility, and participation in life.

You do not need to use any specific label to attend. If patterns of withdrawal or restriction are causing suffering, you are welcome.
